What Was Planed Plant?
Planed Plant was a collection of TV programmes made just for children. It included many different types of shows. Some were cartoons from other countries. These cartoons were then changed to be in Welsh. This process is called dubbing.
Shows You Might Know
Planed Plant showed many exciting animated series. These included popular shows like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Sabrina. Other well-known cartoons were Horseland and Dennis and Gnasher. All these shows were dubbed into Welsh for young viewers.
Besides these, Planed Plant also featured shows made in Wales. Some specific programmes that aired on Planed Plant included:
- Clwb Winx (from 2004 to 2009)
- Siôn Blewyn Coch (1986) (a show from 1986)
The Evolution of Children's TV on S4C
Planed Plant was not the only children's programming block on S4C. Over the years, S4C had different names for its kids' shows. These names often changed as the channel grew and developed.
Early Beginnings: Clwb S4C
The very first children's block was called Clwb S4C. It ran from 1 November 1982 until 14 September 1990. This was the start of dedicated Welsh-language TV for young people.
Growing Up: Slot Meithrin and More
After Clwb S4C, new blocks appeared. Slot Meithrin was for younger children. It aired from 17 September 1990 to 9 October 1998. Another block, Slot 23, was also introduced on 17 September 1990. It ended on 30 April 1994. Later, 5 Pump took over from 5 September 1994 to 9 October 1998.
Planed Plant itself started on 14 October 1998. It included shows for older kids. At the same time, Planed Plant Bach ("Small Children's Planet") began. This was for nursery-aged children. Planed Plant Bach ran until 22 April 2008.
New Eras: Cyw and Stwnsh
On 23 April 2008, Planed Plant Bach was replaced by a new service called Cyw ("Chick"). Cyw is still on air today, providing shows for very young children.
Planed Plant for older children continued until 25 June 2008. It was then replaced by a similar block called Stwnsh on 26 June 2010. Stwnsh is also still running and offers exciting programmes for older kids.
