Plata (also known as La Plata) is a small area called a barrio in the town of Aibonito, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,724 people lived there.

History of Plata

After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.

In 1899, the United States government counted the people living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 1,554 people lived in the Plata barrio at that time.

These areas are called Comunidades especiales de Puerto Rico (Special Communities of Puerto Rico). They can be barrios, communities, sectors, or neighborhoods.

In 2004, two areas in Plata were added to this list: Amoldadero and Los Muros. The program helps residents in these communities get the support they need.
