The Platinum Pudding is a special British dessert. It's a yummy lemon and amaretti trifle. A trifle is a layered dessert with sponge cake, fruit, jelly, and custard.

This pudding was created by Jemma Melvin in 2022. It was part of a big competition to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The Platinum Jubilee marked Queen Elizabeth II's amazing 70 years on the throne!

Discovering the Winning Recipe

The winning recipe was made by Jemma Melvin, who is from Southport. She called her creation "Jemma's lemon Swiss roll and Amaretti trifle".

This recipe makes enough for 20 people! Jemma shared that some parts, like the lemon curd, jelly, Amaretti biscuits, and custard, can be bought ready-made. But she suggested making the Swiss roll and mandarin coulis yourself. A coulis is a thin fruit sauce.

The Pudding Competition

The Platinum Pudding Competition started in 2021. It was organized by Fortnum & Mason, a famous store in London. The idea was to find a new dessert to honor the Queen.

The competition was officially launched on January 10, 2022. It was announced by Buckingham Palace, Fortnum & Mason, and The Big Jubilee Lunch. This was all part of the big Platinum Jubilee celebrations that year.

Nadine Dorries, a government official, said the competition was a "wonderful way to celebrate Her Majesty's 70 year reign." She hoped it would inspire people of all ages to bake.

After all the entries were in, chefs from Fortnum & Mason helped choose the best ones. The final judging took place at their main store in Piccadilly, London. The winning recipe was promised to be shared with everyone in the country.

The winning pudding was a very important part of the Jubilee celebrations. The Palace said the recipe would be available to the public. People could enjoy the pudding at "Big Jubilee Lunches" during the special weekend.

Who Could Enter?

Anyone living in Britain aged 8 and older could enter the competition. This included individuals, families, school classes, and community groups.
