The Pleasant River is a small river in Oxford County, Maine, United States. It's about 4.7 miles (7.6 kilometers) long. This river flows into the Androscoggin River. The Androscoggin then travels south to meet the Kennebec River at Merrymeeting Bay, close to the Atlantic Ocean.

About This Pleasant River

Did you know there are actually three other rivers in Maine named "Pleasant River"? This particular Pleasant River is special because it's the only one that flows into the Androscoggin River. It's an important part of the local water system.

Where the River Begins

The Pleasant River has two main parts that come together. These are called its branches. They are the West Branch Pleasant River and the East Branch Pleasant River.

The West Branch starts high up near a place called Haystack Notch. This area is inside the White Mountain National Forest. The East Branch also begins in the national forest. Its starting points are near Farwell Mountain and Peter Mountain.

Its Journey to the Androscoggin

Both the West Branch and the East Branch flow north. As they travel, they collect water from many smaller streams. These streams add to the river's flow.

After a while, the two branches meet and join together. This is where the main Pleasant River officially begins. The river then continues to flow north for a few miles. Finally, it meets and joins the larger Androscoggin River. This meeting point is a few miles west of the town of Bethel.
