History of Pleasure Island

Pleasure Island Family Theme Park was built on the land where the Cleethorpes Marineland and Zoo used to be. This zoo had animals like dolphins and sea lions. The zoo closed in 1977.

Later, a company decided to build a new theme park there. Construction started in the 1980s. However, the company faced problems, and building the park stopped for a while.

Then, Robert Gibb, who ran Flamingo Land, bought the land. He decided to finish building the theme park. This became Pleasure Island. The park was completed in 1992 and officially opened on May 27, 1993. Robert Gibb's daughter, Melanie Wood, later took charge of managing Pleasure Island.

In 2010, Pleasure Island became separate from Flamingo Land. Melanie Wood's company, Dewarsavile Enterprises Ltd, took over running the park. There was some confusion at first, with news saying the park had closed. But it reopened under its new ownership on May 1, 2010. In 2013, a farm and petting zoo were added, along with a new tractor ride.

Pleasure Island Family Theme Park closed permanently after the 2016 season. All the rides and items from the park were sold off in auctions, with the last sales happening in October 2018.

Park Areas

Pleasure Island was divided into 6 different themed areas:

  • Africa – This was the biggest area, designed to look like Africa. It had one big thrill ride.
