Discover Poatina

Poatina is a unique place with an interesting history. It was originally built for a special purpose. Today, it is known for its strong community and creative spirit.

How Poatina Started

Poatina Village was built in the 1960s. It was created to house the workers who built and operated the Poatina Power Station. This power station started working in 1964.

In 1995, the company that owned the power station, Hydro Tasmania, sold the village. It was bought by Fusion Australia. This is a Christian organization that helps young people and communities. By 2010, Poatina was known as a very close-knit Christian community.

Life in Poatina Village

As of 2014, Poatina had many interesting places. The Poatina Chalet was part of a resort owned by Fusion Australia. The town also had a Golden Chain Motel and the Mountain View Restaurant.

For those interested in crafts, there was a metal workshop and a hot glass studio. Poatina also had a golf course and a private school. An artists' community thrived there, too.

By 2020, Poatina still had its charm. Its streets were lined with houses built in the 1950s. You could also find a general store, a petrol pump, and even a phone box.
