Point Lookout is also part of the larger Branson Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History of Point Lookout
The name "Point Lookout" is very fitting! The community got its name because it is located on a high spot. From here, you can "look out" over the surrounding area. A post office for Point Lookout has been open since 1931. The elevation of Point Lookout is about 932 feet (or 283 meters) above sea level. This makes it a great place for views.
Education and the College of the Ozarks
The entire community of Point Lookout is actually part of the College of the Ozarks. This college owns and takes care of all 1,000 acres of land in Point Lookout. The College of the Ozarks is a special place. Students who attend the college do not pay tuition. Instead, they work jobs on campus to help pay for their education.
The college used to host a big basketball event. It was called the NAIA Division II basketball tournament. Teams from all over the country would come to Point Lookout to compete.
