About the Movie's Story

Where the Story Takes Place

The city in the movie, Crown City, is not a real place. But it looks a lot like cities and towns in the Netherlands and Belgium. The director, Kunihiko Yuyama, and his team visited many places for ideas. Some of these places include the Magere Brug bridge, the Amstel River, and Kinderdijk in the Netherlands. They also visited Brussels in Belgium.

What Happens in the Story

A long time ago, Crown City was a peaceful place. Twenty years before the movie, a man named Grings Kodai stole power from the "Time Ripple." This ripple was created by Celebi, a Pokémon that can travel through time. By taking this power, Kodai could see the future. But it also caused most of the city's plants to die. Kodai used his new power to become a very successful businessman. He even controlled the news. Over time, people and Pokémon worked together to make the city green again.

Now, Kodai's power to see the future is fading. He plans to take the Time Ripple's power again. This would destroy the city's plants once more. He captures Zoroark and her child, Zorua, and brings them to Crown City. Zorua uses its illusion powers to escape. Ash, Dawn, and Brock find Zorua outside the city. They agree to help Zorua find its mother, Zoroark.

Kodai then tricks Zoroark. He shows her a video that makes her think Zorua is his hostage. Zoroark gets angry and uses her illusion powers. She pretends to be Entei, Raikou, and Suicune. These are ancient Pokémon that protect the city. This scares the people in Crown City. Kodai and his helper, Rowena, make fake news videos. They say Zoroark is bad and causing trouble. Kodai orders the city to be closed off. This lets him secretly search for the Time Ripple.

Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Zorua meet Karl. He is a reporter who is trying to find out Kodai's secrets. Karl helps them get into the sealed city through a sewer. Kodai's henchman, Goone, captures Zoroark again. Kodai then sees a vision that Ash, Dawn, Brock, Karl, and Rowena will stop him.

Zorua runs off to find Zoroark. Ash's Pikachu and Dawn's Piplup follow him. Then, Celebi appears and becomes friends with Zorua, Pikachu, and Piplup. Kodai captures Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Karl. But Rowena, who is also a secret reporter, frees them. Kodai sees a vision that Celebi will show him the Time Ripple. So, he goes after Celebi. Kodai hurts Celebi to see more of the future.

Ash, Dawn, Brock, Karl, and Rowena escape with Zorua and Celebi. They meet Karl's grandfather, Joe, and his friend Tammy. Joe tells them that the Time Ripple is near a clock in the local stadium. Kodai secretly listens to their conversation.

Meanwhile, Zoroark escapes from her cage. The real guardian Pokémon, Entei, Raikou, and Suicune, arrive. They think Zoroark is attacking the city and fight her. Karl, Rowena, Joe, and Tammy stop the fight. They explain that Zoroark is not evil.

Ash carries the hurt Celebi to the Time Ripple at the stadium. Kodai follows them. Kodai's Pokémon, Mismagius, traps Ash and Celebi. His Shuppet hurts Zoroark. This stops them from reaching the Time Ripple. Kodai thinks he has taken the Time Ripple's power. He even brags that he fooled the city twice with his fake news. But Zoroark reveals that Kodai's victory is just an illusion. Kodai tries to reach the Time Ripple again. But the guardian Pokémon block him. Zoroark uses her last bit of strength to create an illusion of Kodai's ship. This traps him in the stadium.

Zoroark then collapses because of her injuries. Celebi goes into the Time Ripple to get its power back and to heal Zoroark. After that, Celebi goes back to its own time. Kodai's confessions are shown on TV news. He and Goone are arrested. Zorua and Zoroark then go back to their home region, Unova.
