Pokémon Journeys: The Series is the twenty-third season of the popular Pokémon animated show. In Japan, it's known as Pocket Monsters. This exciting season started airing in Japan on November 17, 2019, on TV Tokyo. For fans in the United States, it became available on Netflix starting June 12, 2020. This was a big change because it was the first Pokémon series in the U.S. to be released mainly through a streaming service instead of regular TV. Canadian viewers could watch it weekly on Teletoon from May 9, 2020, and in the United Kingdom, it began airing on Pop on September 1, 2020.
This season follows the amazing adventures of Ash Ketchum and a new main character named Goh. They travel across all eight regions from the Pokémon world, including the brand-new Galar region from the Pokémon Sword and Shield games. Their journey is different from past seasons because they visit many regions, not just one. Helping them on their missions are Professor Cerise, a Pokémon researcher, and his daughter Chloe, who is Goh's childhood friend.

Music from the Show

Japanese Songs
The main Japanese opening song is "One, Two, Three." Different artists performed it throughout the season, including Soraru and Mafumafu, Nishikawa-kun and Kirishō, and Erika Ikuta and Sayuri Matsumura. The ending songs include "Pokémon Shiritori" and "Strange and Wonderful Creatures."
English Songs
The English opening song is called "The Journey Starts Today." It's performed by the Canadian band Walk off the Earth. This song is special because it's the first English Pokémon opening that doesn't actually say the word "Pokémon" in its lyrics! The instrumental version of this song is used as the ending theme.
Ash and Goh's Adventures
Ash and Goh are research fellows for Professor Cerise. Their goal is to travel the world and learn all about Pokémon. Ash wants to become a Pokémon Master, while Goh dreams of catching every Pokémon, especially the mythical Mew.
Early Journeys and New Friends
- The season kicks off by showing how Ash's Pikachu first met him.
- Ash and Goh meet for the first time when they both encounter the legendary Pokémon Lugia.
- They visit the Galar region, where they learn about giant Pokémon called Dynamax and Gigantamax.
- Goh catches his first Galar Pokémon, Scorbunny, who later evolves into Raboot and then Cinderace.
- Ash catches a mischievous Gengar and a powerful Riolu, who later evolves into Lucario.
- Chloe, Professor Cerise's daughter, also starts her own journey and catches an Eevee.
Exciting Battles and Discoveries
- Ash enters the World Coronation Series, a big tournament where trainers battle to become the strongest. He faces tough opponents like Leon, the Galar Champion, and Bea, a strong Fighting-type Gym Leader.
- Goh continues to catch many different Pokémon from various regions, getting closer to his dream of finding Mew.
- They help solve mysteries, like a giant Snorlax in Galar and a strange sandstorm in Mauville City.
- Ash and Goh even team up with Team Rocket sometimes, like when they all try to battle the legendary Zapdos!
- They travel to the Alola region, where Ash reunites with his old Pokémon and friends.
- They also help restore ancient Fossil Pokémon in the Galar region.
Facing Big Challenges
- Ash and Goh get involved in a huge crisis in the Galar region involving the mysterious "Darkest Day" and the legendary Pokémon Eternatus. They work with Leon and Sonia to stop it.
- They even have an intense battle with the powerful Mewtwo on a mysterious island.
- Their Pokémon grow stronger and evolve, like Riolu becoming Lucario and Raboot becoming Cinderace.
- Chloe also starts to discover her own path and love for Pokémon, especially with her new Eevee.
