Time as Pope
Pope John VII faced some challenges during his time as pope. He had difficult relations with a group called the Quinisext Council. This council had made some rules that were not popular in Italy.
However, he had good relations with the Lombards. The Lombards were a powerful group. They ruled a large part of Italy during that time.
A historical book called Liber Pontificalis talks about Pope John VII. This book criticized him for not signing some rules. These rules, called Canons, were very unpopular in Italy. The book says that the Byzantine Emperor Justinian II asked Pope John VII to approve or reject these rules. But Pope John VII sent them back without making any changes.
