Port of Tarifa facts for kids
The Port of Tarifa is a busy harbor in the town of Tarifa, located in southern Spain. It's a special place where fishing boats bring in their catch and passenger ferries take people to and from North Africa. This port is managed by the Port Authority of Algeciras. It's super important because it's the closest port in Europe to Africa. Many ships travel from here to Tangier in Morocco and Ceuta. The port itself is about 25 meters long and 50 meters deep.
A Look Back: History of the Port
The Port of Tarifa has a long history. Way back in May 429 A.D., a group of people called the Vandals used this port. Their leader, Geiseric, gathered his army here. They were preparing to cross the sea to Africa. From there, they planned to explore and gather resources.
