Porto do Son is a town and area in Spain. It is located in the province of A Coruña. This province is part of Galicia, an autonomous community in Spain.

Porto do Son also belongs to the region of Noia. The area includes the main town of Porto do Son and other smaller coastal villages like Portosín. This region is about 25 kilometers long and 6 kilometers wide. It has many beautiful beaches and famous ancient Celtic ruins. One well-known ruin is the "Castro de Baroña," which is a type of hill fort.

Exploring the Geography of Porto do Son

Porto do Son is found on the north-eastern side of the Barbanza Peninsula. It shares borders with other towns in the Barbanza area. These towns include Boiro, A Pobra do Caramiñal, and Santa Uxía de Ribeira.

To the north-east, Porto do Son borders the towns of Noia and Lousame. The Barbanza Peninsula is a very hilly place. Most people live near the coast. Porto do Son is the largest town in Barbanza. Its highest point is a mountain called Iroite.

Discovering the Ancient Castro de Baroña

Just south of the fishing village of Porto do Son, you can find the ruins of an ancient Celtic fort. This fort is called "Castro de Baroña" and is over 2,000 years old. These ruins were only found again in 1933. They are now protected as an important Spanish "Artistic Heritage" site.

There is a local story about Castro de Baroña. The legend says that if you see the shape of a lion's head in the rocks there, you will be chosen. You would then join the rebirth of the Celtic Clan of Baroña.
