Poston Butte is a cool hill in Florence, Pinal County, Arizona. It's sometimes called Primrose Hill. You can find it near the Santan Mountains. This hill is made of basalt rocks on top of older granite.

Discovering Poston Butte

Poston Butte is a special place because of a unique tomb at its very top. This tomb belongs to a very important person named Charles Debrille Poston. He played a big part in Arizona's history.

Who Was Charles Poston?

Charles Poston was a key figure in creating the Arizona Territory. He worked hard to convince President Abraham Lincoln and the United States Congress to make Arizona its own territory. Because he knew a lot about the Native American groups in the area, he was chosen to be the Superintendent of Indian Affairs. This job meant he helped manage relations with Native populations.

Exploring the Butte

You can visit Charles Poston's tomb at the top of Poston Butte. It's shaped like a pyramid! To get there, you can hike a trail that is about 0.6 miles long. The trail starts right off Hunt Highway. It's a great way to see some history and enjoy the outdoors.
