Where MHP Works

MHP has operations in Ukraine and other countries.

Ukraine

In Ukraine, MHP makes and sells many food products. These include fresh and frozen chicken meat, processed meat products, cooking oils (like sunflower and soybean oil), and animal feed. They make everything from chilled chicken to pizza and ready-to-eat meals.

MHP owns about 360,000 hectares of farmland across 12 regions in Ukraine.

The Balkans

MHP also has a strong presence in the Balkans through Perutnina Ptuj. This company is a major producer of chicken and meat products in countries like Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Perutnina Ptuj also has distribution centers in other European countries, sending products to 15 different nations.

MHP helps Perutnina Ptuj by sharing its best ways of working and producing food. This has helped Perutnina Ptuj become even stronger and more efficient. Their main brands in this region are Perutnina Ptuj and Poli.

Helping Communities

MHP believes in helping the communities where it operates.

Supporting Employees and Veterans

For employees who serve in the military, MHP makes sure they keep their jobs and continue to get paid. The company also helps their families and provides support like medical care and financial aid. When soldiers return, MHP helps them with health checks, rehabilitation, and finding new jobs if needed.

MHP Eco Energy

MHP is also focused on being environmentally friendly. Since 2011, they have been working on projects to create sustainable energy. MHP has three biogas complexes, two in Ukraine and one in the Balkans. These facilities use waste from chicken production to create clean, green energy. This helps reduce harmful gases and also produces natural fertilizers for farming.

In 2019, the first part of the Biogas Ladyzhyn complex started working. It's one of the largest biogas plants in Europe that uses chicken waste to make energy. MHP is also working with the UK government on new ways to produce biogas using microalgae.

Protecting Water

MHP cares about reducing how much water it uses. They regularly check and maintain their water systems. They also use modern technology to clean wastewater. In 2021, the water they released in Ukraine was clean and met all environmental rules.

There were some discussions in the media about MHP's facilities near Kaniv and the Rosava river. However, studies done by MHP and Cherkasy State Technological University found no pollution caused by MHP in the river near its operations. MHP has also installed advanced wastewater treatment systems from a Dutch company.

Community Development

MHP works with many groups to help communities grow. They give money, products, and services, and their employees volunteer. In 2021, MHP's charitable foundation was renamed the MHP - Hromady Sustainable Development Fund. This fund supports:

  • Micro-grants: Small grants for local projects and small businesses to help solve problems in villages and towns.
  • Culture and Education: Projects that help strengthen Ukrainian identity.
  • Environment: Projects that encourage people to protect nature.
  • Public Health: The "Doctor for the Village" project helps people in remote areas get good medical care.

Some of their projects include:

  • Open-Air Cinema: A tour that brought Ukrainian movies to 43 villages and small towns that don't have cinemas.
  • Green Planet with MHP: A project that plants trees to create parks and green spaces in communities. In 2020 and 2021, over 33,000 tree seedlings were planted.

MHP During the War in Ukraine

Since the full-scale war started in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, MHP has faced many challenges. It became difficult to move products because ports were closed and roads were dangerous. MHP had to produce less chicken.

On March 12, 2022, a warehouse rented by MHP in the Kyiv region caught fire due to shelling. Over 3,000 tons of frozen chicken products were lost. MHP also temporarily stopped operations at its "Ukrainian Bacon" meat processing plant in the Donetsk region due to fighting.

Despite these difficulties, MHP has continued to operate. They play a very important role in making sure Ukraine has enough food. The company has provided about 11,000 tons of free chicken products, other food, and supplies as part of its humanitarian mission to help people in Ukraine.

Support from International Organizations

MHP works with big international financial groups like the EBRD, EIB, and IFC. These groups use money from their member countries to help businesses grow in developing countries like Ukraine. They have rules about social and environmental standards.

In 2019, the EBRD stopped giving money to MHP because MHP was exporting more chicken to the EU than allowed by certain agreements. Also, in 2018, people living near MHP's Vinnytsia poultry farm complained to the IFC and EBRD. This led to ongoing discussions to try and solve the issues.
