Precious Bryant (born Bussey) was an amazing American singer and guitarist. She was known for her country blues, gospel, and folk music. Many people called her one of Georgia's greatest blueswomen. She played a special guitar style called Piedmont fingerstyle guitar.
Precious Bryant's Musical Journey
Precious Bryant was born in Talbot County, Georgia, in the United States. She was the third of nine children. Precious first loved singing when she performed at her local Baptist church with her sisters. She learned to play the guitar from her father and uncle. Her uncle, George Henry Bussey, was also a blues musician. Precious left high school in eleventh grade and started performing wherever she could.
In 1967, a music expert named George Mitchell first recorded her music. He said she was a "Georgia musical treasure." In 1983, she performed at the Chattahoochee Folk Festival. Soon, she began playing at many places, from local events to international shows. She gained more and more fans.
In 1995, Precious met Tim Duffy and joined the Music Maker Relief Foundation. This group helped her arrange concerts and tours around the world. They helped her play at big events like Blues to Bop in Switzerland and the Port Townsend Blues Festival. This helped her music reach even more people.
Awards and Recognitions
Precious Bryant released three albums of her own music. Her first album, Fool Me Good, came out in 2002. It was nominated for two Blues Music Awards. These awards were for Acoustic Blues Album of the Year and Best New Artist Debut. In 2006, she was nominated for another award. This was for Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year. Other famous singers like Koko Taylor and Etta James were also nominated.
Her song "Morning Train" was also featured in a movie. It was part of the music for the 2007 film Black Snake Moan.
Later Years
Precious Bryant passed away on January 12, 2013, in Columbus, Georgia. She died due to health problems.
