A Look Back: History of Waverly Hall
Waverly Hall got its start a long time ago. In 1829, a post office opened in the area. The town's name comes from the famous "Waverley novels" written by Sir Walter Scott. These were very popular books!
Later, in 1914, the state government officially made Waverly Hall a town. This meant it could have its own local government and make rules for its residents.
Where is Waverly Hall?
Waverly Hall is located in the west-central part of Georgia. It sits in a hilly area known as the Piedmont region.
Two main roads, Alternate U.S. Route 27 and Georgia State Route 85, pass through the town. These roads can take you southwest about 24 miles (39 km) to Columbus or north about 10 miles (16 km) to Shiloh. Another road, Georgia State Route 208, meets these highways in the northern part of town. The big city of Atlanta is about 83 miles (134 km) northeast by road.
The United States Census Bureau says that Waverly Hall covers a total area of about 3.36 square miles (8.7 square kilometers). A very small part of this area, about 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometers), is water.
