Preiļi is a small town located in the Latgale region of Latvia. It is also the main administrative center for Preiļi Municipality.

History of Preiļi
Preiļi is one of the oldest places where people have lived in Latvia. It was first written about in old documents way back in 1250. A big house called the Borch family manor was built there in 1836.
By 1897, about 2,104 people lived in Preiļi. Preiļi officially became a city in 1928, which means it got special "city rights." By 1935, the population was 1,662 people. After World War II, the number of people living in Preiļi dropped to less than 1,000. During the time of the Soviet Union, many workers from Russia and Belarus moved to Preiļi for jobs. This caused the population to grow a lot, reaching its highest point of 9,421 people in 1989.
