This article tells you about the leaders of Guinea-Bissau, called presidents. The job of president was created in 1973 when Guinea-Bissau declared its independence from Portugal.
Since gaining independence on September 24, 1973, Guinea-Bissau has had six official presidents. There have also been five acting presidents and three temporary military leaders. The person who holds the office now is Umaro Sissoco Embaló. He became president on February 27, 2020, after winning the 2019 presidential election.

Presidential Term Limits
In Guinea-Bissau, the president can serve for a maximum of two terms. Each term lasts for five years. This rule is part of the country's constitution. So far, no president has served for the full two terms.
