The President of Mongolia (called Mongol Ulsiin Yörönkhiilögch in Mongolian) is the main leader of Mongolia. They are the head of state, which means they are the top representative of the country. The current president is Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh.
People who want to become president are chosen by political parties that have members in the Mongolian parliament. This parliament is called the State Great Khural. The president used to serve two four-year terms. But now, they serve one six-year term and cannot be re-elected.
A president can be removed from office if two-thirds of the Khural members agree they have misused their power or broken their oath. Before a new president officially starts their job, they must stop being a member of any political party.

What the President Does
The President of Mongolia has several important jobs:
- They suggest a person to become the Prime Minister. The parliament (State Great Khural) then decides if they approve this person. Usually, the parliament chooses the Prime Minister, and the president's role is more formal.
- They can say "no" to new laws passed by the Khural. This is called a veto. However, the Khural can still pass the law if two-thirds of its members vote for it again.
- They approve people chosen to be judges.
- They choose the main judge for the Supreme Court of Mongolia.
- They lead the National Security Council of Mongolia, which deals with the country's safety.
- They are the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, meaning they are in charge of the military.
- They choose the prosecutor general, who is the main lawyer for the government. The Khural must approve this choice.
- They give advice on how the government should work.
Where the President Lives
Mongolian leaders usually live at the president's residence. This home is part of the Ikh Tenger Complex. This complex is a special, protected area near the Bogd Khan Mountain. The president's house is close to the homes of the Speaker of Parliament and the Prime Minister.
The Winter Palace
In 2017, the new president, Battulga, decided to live in a different place. He chose the "Winter Palace" in central Ulaanbaatar. This building is also known as the marshal's residence. It is located in the heart of the capital city.
The Winter Palace was built in 1947. It was originally the home of Marshal Khorloogiin Choibalsan, a famous Mongolian leader. The building has two fancy rooms and five other rooms. It also has a large hall that can hold 52 to 80 people for events.
