The President of Mongolia is the main leader and head of state of Mongolia. This means they are the top representative of the country. The current president is Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh.
Political parties that have members in the State Great Khural (Mongolia's parliament) can suggest people to become president. The president serves for six years. They can only serve one term, meaning they cannot be re-elected. This rule started with the 2021 Mongolian presidential election. Before becoming president, the person chosen must leave their political party.

What the President Does
The President of Mongolia has several important jobs and powers. They help guide the country and work with the parliament.
Working with the Government
- The president suggests a person to be the Prime Minister of Mongolia. The parliament then decides if they approve this person.
- The president can say "no" to (veto) new laws passed by the parliament. However, if two-thirds of the parliament members agree, they can override the president's veto.
- The president helps set the direction for how the government works.
- They also suggest the person who will be the prosecutor general. This official is in charge of making sure laws are followed. The parliament must approve this choice.
Judicial and Military Roles
- The president approves people chosen for important jobs in the courts.
- They appoint the main judge of the Supreme Court of Mongolia.
- The president leads the National Security Council of Mongolia. This group deals with the country's safety and defense.
- The president is also the commander-in-chief of the Mongolian Armed Forces. This means they are the top leader of the country's military.

The Ikh Tenger Complex is a special protected area. It is located near the Bogd Khan Mountain. The president's home is close to where the Speaker of Parliament and the Prime Minister live.
The Winter Palace
In 2017, the president at the time, Battulga, decided to live in a different place. This place is called the "Winter Palace." It is also known as the marshal's residence. This building is in the center of Ulaanbaatar, the capital city. It was built in 1947 and used to be the home of Marshal Khorloogiin Choibalsan. It has several rooms, including a large hall for events.
