List of heads of state of Mongolia facts for kids
Mongolia is a country in East Asia. Like many countries, it has a leader who represents the nation. This leader is called the "head of state." In Mongolia, the President of Mongolia is the head of state. The country's main rulebook, the Constitution of Mongolia, says the President shows the unity of the Mongolian people.
Mongolia became independent from the Qing dynasty in 1911. This happened during the Mongolian Revolution of 1911. At that time, the main leader was the Bogd Khan. He was also a very important religious leader. From 1911 to 1924, during the time known as the Bogd Khanate of Mongolia, the Bogd Khan was the head of state.
After 1924, Mongolia became the Mongolian People's Republic. The title for the head of state changed many times until 1992. Here are some of the titles used:
- Chairman of the State Great Khural (1924)
- Chairman of the Presidium of the State Little Khural (1924–1951)
- Chairman of the Presidium of the State Great Khural (1951–1960)
- Chairman of the Presidium of the People's Great Khural (1960–1990)
- President of the Mongolian People's Republic (1990–1992)
Since 1992, Mongolia has been a democratic republic. The head of state is now simply called the President.
