Presswood is a small place in Mendocino County, California. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
Presswood is located about 1.25 miles (2 kilometers) north of Ukiah. It sits at an elevation of 620 feet (189 meters) above sea level.
What is Presswood?
The name "Presswood" comes from a big factory that used to be there. This factory made a product called Masonite. Masonite is a type of engineered wood. It's made by pressing wood fibers together under high heat and pressure.
The factory was built in 1948. It used the local workers from Ukiah and the nearby Northwestern Pacific Railroad to ship its products. The factory closed down in 2001. After it closed, the building was taken apart.
