History of Preston
Preston began in 1870. This was after a railroad was built through the area.
The city is named after one of its founders, I. M. Preston. When the town was first planned, people who were there could name the streets after themselves.

Famous People from Preston
- Al Feuerbach was a track and field athlete. He competed in the shot put at the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics.
- Bob Oldis was a professional baseball player. He also worked as a scout for the Florida Marlins.
- Fred Schule (1879–1962) won a gold medal in hurdles at the 1904 Olympics.
- Roger Stewart served as an Iowa State Senator.
