The Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea is also known as the Prime Minister of Crimea. This person is the head of government for the Republic of Crimea. Before 2014, Crimea was known as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and was part of Ukraine.
Before 2014, the Prime Minister was chosen in a specific way. The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea (Crimean parliament) would suggest a name. The President of Ukraine had to approve this choice. Then, the Crimean parliament would give their final approval. This Prime Minister would lead the Council of Ministers of Crimea.
After 2014, when Crimea became part of Russia, the way the Prime Minister is chosen changed. Now, the head of the Republic of Crimea appoints the Prime Minister. This happens after the State Council of Crimea (the Crimean parliament) approves the person. The Head of the Republic of Crimea can also lead the Council of Ministers, but they also need approval from the State Council.
