Primo Water Corporation is a big company that helps people get clean drinking water. They offer bottled water, machines that give you water, and ways to filter water at home or in offices. This company is based in Tampa, Florida, in the United States. They serve customers in many places around the world, including the United States, Canada, Europe, and Israel.

How It All Started

The company we know today as Primo Water Corporation actually began with a different name: Cott Beverage Corporation. It was started in 1923 by Solomon Cott and his sons in Port Chester, New York.

A man named Harry Pencer from Montreal, Quebec, started bringing Cott sodas into Canada in 1952. A few years later, in 1955, he bought the rights to sell Cott products in Canada. He then created Cott Beverages (Canada) Ltd. to bottle their sodas.

From 1976 to 1991, Cott grew a lot. They started selling their drinks all over Canada, back in the U.S., and even in Europe. The company's name changed a couple of times, becoming Cott Beverages Ltd. in 1969, and then Cott Corporation in 1991.

Growing the Company

Starting in 2014, Cott Corporation began to focus more on water. They bought many companies that dealt with bottled water. At the same time, they started to move away from the soda business.

Key Purchases

  • In 2014, Cott bought Aimia Foods, a company in the United Kingdom that made hot chocolate, coffee, and powdered drinks.
  • Later that year, they bought DSS Group, Inc. This company delivered bottled water and coffee directly to homes and offices in the United States. This was a very big purchase for Cott.
  • In 2016, Cott bought Aquaterra, a Canadian company that also delivered bottled water and coffee.
  • Eight months later, they bought Eden Springs, a similar company that delivered water and coffee in Europe. They also bought S&D Coffee and Tea, a company known for roasting coffee.

Changing Focus

In 2018, Cott sold its soda and juice bottling businesses to another company called Refresco. This showed that Cott was really serious about focusing on water. They also bought Mountain Valley Spring Company, which is known for its natural spring water.

In 2020, Cott sold S&D Coffee and Tea. Then, on March 2, 2020, Cott Corporation made a very important purchase: they bought Primo Water Corporation. After this big purchase, Cott Corporation decided to change its own name to Primo Water Corporation. This is why the company is called Primo Water Corporation today!

More recently, in 2022, Primo Water Corporation bought Highland Mountain Water, a company based in Georgia. This shows they are still growing their water business.
