Primo Water Corporation is a big company that provides water and water-related products. It used to be called Cott Corporation. They offer large bottles of water, machines that dispense water, and equipment to filter water.

The company's main office is in Tampa, Florida, in the United States. They serve homes and businesses in many places. These include the United States, Canada, countries in Europe, and Israel.

How Primo Water Started

The company began in 1923 as Cott Beverage Corporation. It was started by Solomon Cott, who came from Poland. He worked with his sons Harry, Barney, Jack, and Albert in Port Chester, New York.

Later, in 1952, a man named Harry Pencer from Montreal, Quebec, started bringing Cott sodas into Canada. By 1955, Pencer bought the rights to sell Cott products in Canada. He then created Cott Beverages (Canada) Ltd. to bottle the sodas there.

From 1976 to 1991, Cott grew a lot. They started selling their drinks all over Canada, back in the U.S., and even in Europe. The company's name changed a few times. In 1969, it became Cott Beverages Ltd., and in 1991, it was renamed Cott Corporation.

How Primo Water Grew

Over the years, Cott Corporation bought many other companies. This helped them grow and offer more products.

Moving from Soda to Water

Around 2014, Cott decided to focus more on the bottled water business. They started buying water companies and stopped making carbonated drinks.

  • In 2014, they bought Aimia Foods. This company made hot chocolate, coffee, and powdered drinks in the United Kingdom.
  • Later that year, they bought DSS Group, Inc. This company delivered bottled water and coffee to homes and offices in the United States.

Expanding Water Services

Cott continued to grow its water delivery services:

  • In 2016, they bought Aquaterra, a Canadian company that delivered bottled water and coffee.
  • Eight months later, they bought Eden Springs. This company delivered water and coffee in Europe.
  • They also bought S&D Coffee and Tea, a company that roasted coffee.

Becoming Primo Water Corporation

In 2018, Cott sold its soft drink and juice bottling businesses to another company called Refresco. This showed their strong focus on water. They also bought Mountain Valley Spring Company, which sells natural spring water.

A big change happened in March 2020. Cott bought Primo Water Corporation. As part of this deal, Cott Corporation changed its own name to Primo Water Corporation. They also changed their stock market symbols to NYSE:PRMW and TSX:PRMW.

In July 2022, Primo Water Corporation bought Highland Mountain Water, a company based in Georgia. This helped them expand even more.
