Princess Lilibet's Life Story
Her Birth and Family
Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born at 11:40 AM Pacific Daylight Time on June 4, 2021. Her birth took place at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California. She is the second child of Prince Harry and Meghan, and she has an older brother, Prince Archie.
Her parents announced her birth and name two days later. Lilibet was named after her paternal great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whose family nickname was "Lilibet." Her middle name, Diana, honors her paternal grandmother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Her own nickname is "Lili."
Lilibet has a diverse family background, with both African and European heritage. She holds dual citizenship, meaning she is a citizen of both the United States and the United Kingdom. In December 2021, the first public photograph of Lilibet was shared as a Christmas card from her parents.
In June 2022, Lilibet traveled to London with her family for Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. This was the first time she met her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and her grandfather, King Charles, in person.
She had a special Christian ceremony called a christening on March 3, 2023. This private service took place at her parents' home and was led by the bishop of Los Angeles. Her godfather is the American actor and comedian Tyler Perry.
Lilibet and her family live mainly in Montecito, California.
Her Royal Title
After the death of Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022, and the start of King Charles III's reign, Lilibet became a princess. This is because she is the child of a son of the monarch. A special rule, called a letters patent, made by King George V in 1917, explains this.
On March 8, 2023, her parents' spokesperson confirmed her christening. This announcement was the first time her parents publicly used her title, referring to her as "Princess Lilibet Diana." The official website of the royal family was updated the next day, on March 9, to show her as "Princess Lilibet of Sussex."
Princess Lilibet will use her royal titles for formal events. However, in everyday life, she will not typically use them.
