The Pristimantis marahuaka is a unique type of frog that lives in Venezuela. It belongs to a group of frogs called Strabomantidae. This frog is very special because it is endemic to one place. This means it can only be found naturally in that one spot.
That special spot is the very top of a mountain called Cerro Marahuaca. This mountain is a type of flat-topped mountain known as a tepui. It's located in the central Amazonas state of Venezuela.

What is the Pristimantis marahuaka?
This small frog is a fascinating creature. It was first described by scientists in 2004. Its scientific name, Pristimantis marahuaka, comes from the mountain where it lives.
Where Does This Frog Live?
The Pristimantis marahuaka frog has a very specific home. Its natural habitat is a type of shrubland found on the top of the tepui. This area is very high up, about 2,450 meters (or about 8,000 feet) above sea level.
In this cool, high-altitude environment, the frog often lives in the mossy bases of certain plants. One of its favorite spots is near Heliamphora plants. These are special pitcher plants that grow in this region.
Why is This Frog Important?
Even though this frog is common in its small home, it's considered "near threatened." This means it could be at risk in the future. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) keeps track of animals like this.
The main reason for concern is its very small living area. The frog's entire home is less than 20 square kilometers (about 7.7 square miles). If something bad happened to this small area, the frog could be in big trouble.
Conservation Efforts
Right now, there are no direct threats to the Pristimantis marahuaka frog. However, because its home is so tiny, scientists are watching it closely. Protecting its unique mountain habitat is key to making sure this special frog continues to thrive.
