Prophetstown State Park is a special place in Indiana. It remembers a Native American village built in 1808. This village was started by two Shawnee leaders, Tecumseh and his brother Tenskwatawa. It grew into a big community for many different tribes.

Today, the park has an open-air museum. You can see living history exhibits there. These include a Shawnee village and a farm from the 1920s. The park is near Battle Ground, Indiana. This town is close to where the Battle of Tippecanoe happened in 1811. That battle was a big part of Tecumseh's War. It led to the end of the original Prophetstown village. The state park opened in 2004. About 335,000 people visit it every year.

History of Prophetstown State Park

The idea for Prophetstown State Park came up in 1989. But it took a while to get money for it. In 1994, the Indiana government finally gave some funds. More land was bought for the park until 1999. Then, the government gave $3.7 million to create the park.

How the Park Was Officially Opened

Indiana Governor Joe Kernan officially opened the park in 2004. The campground opened the next year. It was a team effort with the city of Lafayette. Money from local hotel taxes helped build it.

Fun at the Aquatic Park

Building the aquatic park started in October 2012. It was finished in 2013. Local leaders wanted it to bring more visitors to the park. They also hoped it would attract more people to Tippecanoe County.

The Farm at Prophetstown

The Farm at Prophetstown is a special part of the park. It is a non-profit group. They rent about 125 acres (51 ha) from the state. Their goal is to show what farm life was like in the 1920s.
