Prosthechea cochleata is a beautiful type of orchid flower. It grows naturally in warm places like Central America, the West Indies, Colombia, Venezuela, and southern Florida. Many people call this orchid the Cockleshell Orchid or Clamshell Orchid because its petals look a bit like a seashell.
This special orchid is also known as the Black Orchid in Belize. It is very important to Belize because it is the country's national flower, a symbol of its natural beauty.
