What is Pueblo del Sol?
Pueblo del Sol is a modern neighborhood designed to be a good place to live. It was built as part of a special program called HOPE VI, which was started when Bill Clinton was president. This program aimed to improve public housing areas.
From Aliso Village to Pueblo del Sol
The old community, Aliso Village, was built with ideas from the "Garden city movement". This movement focused on creating green, open spaces in neighborhoods. Aliso Village mostly had apartment buildings.
How the Community Changed
When Pueblo del Sol was built, it followed a different design idea called New Urbanism. This style focuses on creating neighborhoods where people can easily walk to places and where homes are mixed. Instead of mostly apartments, Pueblo del Sol has many semi-detached homes, which are like two houses joined together. Many of these homes receive help with rent or buying costs, making them more affordable.
The new community has fewer homes (377) than the old one (685). This meant many families who lived in Aliso Village had to move. Some people were concerned because Los Angeles needs more affordable homes, and this project had fewer. However, families who moved out were given special help, like "Section 8 vouchers," to find other places to live. They also got priority to rent or buy homes in the new Pueblo del Sol community. Everyone living and working there agrees to follow rules for good behavior.
Getting Around: Transportation
