Puerto Balleto is a town located in the municipality of San Blas in Nayarit, a state in Mexico. It is found on Isla María Madre, which is the largest island in the Islas Marías group of islands. This group of islands is also known as an archipelago, which means a chain or cluster of islands.
Puerto Balleto is the main and largest community on the Islas Marías. It used to be part of a special federal facility. About 602 people live there. The town has offices, shops, and places for fun and relaxation.
Governing the Islands
The Islas Marías, including Puerto Balleto, were once managed by a special government official. This person was in charge of both the islands and their legal system.
Military Presence
The military on the islands had its own separate command. It was led by an officer from the Mexican Navy. This means the military worked independently from the civilian government of the islands.
