Puerto Busch is a small place in Bolivia. It is located in the southeastern part of the country, right on the Paraguay River. This area is part of the Santa Cruz Department.

The place was named after General Germán Busch. He was a brave leader who fought in a war called the Chaco War.

A Special Piece of Land

The area around Puerto Busch is very unique. It's a narrow strip of land that Bolivia gained after the Chaco War ended. This land is sometimes called the Dionisio Foianini Triangle.

Most of this region is made up of marshland. This means it's often wet and can flood easily. Not many people live here, but some native groups, like the Chiquitano and Ayoreo tribes, call it home.

Connecting to the World

As of late 2004, Puerto Busch was mostly empty, except for some guards from the Bolivian Navy. However, it's a very important place for Bolivia.

There is a road, about 85 miles (140 km) long, that connects Puerto Busch to another town called Puerto Suárez. This road is known as the Man Céspedes corridor.

Bolivia's Ocean Gateway

A big port is being built in Puerto Busch. This port will be very important for Bolivia. It will finally give the country a direct way to reach the Atlantic Ocean. Ships will be able to travel from Puerto Busch along the Paraguay River all the way to the ocean. This is Bolivia's only direct water route to the Atlantic.

Naval Presence

Puerto Busch is also home to a part of the Bolivian Navy. This includes the 5th Naval District, the 2nd Naval Service Area, and the 5th Marine Battalion Calama. This shows how important the area is for Bolivia's defense and trade.
