The town of Puerto Tirol was founded a long time ago. This happened on August 6, 1888. The name "Tirol" comes from the first people who settled here. They were from a region called Tyrol in Europe.

Tyrol was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It is a mountain area in Central Europe. Today, parts of Tyrol are in Austria and Italy.
Another Tyrolian Town
Did you know there is another town named after Tyrol in South America? It is called Treze Tilias. This town is in Santa Catarina, Brazil. It is about 900 kilometers (560 miles) east of Puerto Tirol. Treze Tilias was founded later, in 1933.
