Pukenui is a small place located on the southwest side of Houhora Harbour in the Northland area of New Zealand. It's found on the Aupouri Peninsula. The main road, State Highway 1, goes right through it. The name "Pukenui" comes from the Māori language and means "large hill."

Pukenui is a rural settlement, meaning it's a small community outside of big cities. It covers about 20.70 square kilometers. In 2023, about 834 people lived here. This number has been growing, with 129 more people moving in since 2018.
Most people in Pukenui are European (Pākehā), and many also identify as Māori. A smaller number of people are from Pacific Islands or Asia. Almost everyone speaks English, and some also speak the Māori language. About 8.3% of the people living in Pukenui were born outside of New Zealand.
