Punch-Out!! is an exciting boxing video game made by Next Level Games for the Nintendo Wii. It's the fifth game in the popular Punch-Out!! series.

The game first launched at the Nintendo World Store in New York City on May 16, 2009. It then became available in other stores across North America on May 18, 2009. European players could buy it starting May 22, 2009.

In January 2015, Nintendo Direct announced that Punch-Out!! and other Wii games would be available for download. You could get them through the Wii U's Nintendo eShop.

How to Play Punch-Out!!

In Punch-Out!!, you play as a boxer named Little Mac. Your goal is to climb the ranks in professional boxing. You'll face many colorful and unique boxers. The game needs you to be quick to keep up with your computer opponents.

Meet the Boxers

Some new opponents in this game include Disco Kid, Giga Mac, and Donkey Kong. There are also ten familiar boxers from older Punch-Out!! games. Each boxer has special moves you need to learn.

Using Your Wii Controls

You can play using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk together. You can also use a Wii Balance Board with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to duck or dodge. Or, you can just use the Wii Remote by itself.

Mastering Your Moves

You must react very quickly to win. Watch for the moves your opponent is about to make. You need to dodge or block their attacks. Then, you can hit them back with punches to their body or head. Hitting a weak spot at the right time earns you stars. You can save up to three stars, but you lose them if you get hit.

When you have one or more stars, you can do a special Star Punch. This punch deals extra damage to your opponent. Each fighter has a special gauge. You need to make this gauge go down to knock your opponent down. You also have a heart counter. This goes down if you get hit or if your attacks are blocked. If it reaches zero, you can't attack anymore.

Winning a Match

You win a match in a few ways. You can knock out your opponent, meaning they can't get up after a ten-count. Or, you can get a "technical knock out" by knocking them down three times in one round. If the match goes all three rounds, you can win by decision. If you get hit by a knockout punch, don't worry! It's often possible to recover and keep fighting.

Making the Game: Development Story

The game was first shown in 2008 at the Nintendo Media Summit. A short fifteen-second video trailer was played. Later, it was announced that Next Level Games was developing it. This studio had worked with Nintendo before on games like Super Mario Strikers.

Nintendo wanted to create a new game that felt just like the original Punch-Out!! for the NES. So, they asked Next Level Games to design the game to be very similar. They also wanted the characters to look like the ones from the original games.
