Punta de Vacas is a very small village, also known as a hamlet, located in the Mendoza Province of Argentina. Its name means "cows point." It sits between the city of Mendoza and Puente del Inca, not far from the border with Chile.
This area was once connected by the Transandine Railway. This railway used to carry people and goods all the way from Mendoza in Argentina to Los Andes in Chile.
About Punta de Vacas
Punta de Vacas is a quiet place with a small population. According to a count in 2001, only 47 people lived there. Even though it's small, it's known around the world for a special reason.
Location and Mountains
From Punta de Vacas, you can see the amazing Tupungato mountain. This huge mountain reaches a height of 6,800 meters (about 22,300 feet) above sea level. It is also one of the ways to get to the Aconcagua Provincial Park. This park is home to Aconcagua, which is the tallest mountain in the Americas!
A Special Place
Punta de Vacas became famous because of a speech given there on May 4, 1969. A person named Silo (whose real name was Mario Rodríguez Cobos) gave a speech called "The Healing of Suffering."
Today, this spot is a special park. People who follow Silo's ideas often gather there. They use the park as a place to study and think. You can learn more about the park at its official website: http://www.parquepuntadevacas.org/.
