Puntagorda is a charming village and a local area (called a municipality) located on the northwest side of La Palma island. This island is part of the Canary Islands in Spain. Puntagorda is about 23 kilometers (14 miles) northwest of Santa Cruz de la Palma, which is the capital city of the island.
The municipality of Puntagorda includes several smaller villages. In 2013, about 2,057 people lived there. The total area of Puntagorda is 31.10 square kilometers (about 12 square miles). The main village sits at an elevation of around 700 meters (2,300 feet) above sea level. However, the municipality itself stretches from the coast all the way up to over 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) high.

Nature and Farming in Puntagorda
Puntagorda is known for its beautiful natural areas and farming.
Farms and Crops
In the middle parts of Puntagorda, around the main village, you'll find many farms. These are mostly small farms that grow different kinds of fruits. You can see lots of orange and avocado trees here.
Vineyards and Local Wine
Higher up the slopes, above the village, there are vineyards. These are places where grapes are grown to make wine. The local wine from this area is called Traviesa wine. It's quite special! In 2004, this wine even won a national gold medal in Spain.
Forests and Coastline
Even further up the slopes, towards the Caldera de Taburiente (a huge volcanic crater), you'll find thick forests. These forests are filled with Canary Island pine trees. The coastline of Puntagorda is very steep and beautiful. These cliffs are a protected area because of their amazing natural beauty.
Seawater Pool Access
If you want to enjoy the ocean, there's a small seawater pool you can visit. But be prepared for a workout! You have to go down 460 steps to reach it.
Almond Trees and Festivals
Puntagorda is especially famous for its many almond trees. These trees are a beautiful sight when they blossom. They usually bloom in January and February, covering the landscape in lovely white and pink flowers. Because of this, a special festival is held every year. It's called the "Festival of the Flowering Almonds" and takes place at the end of January or beginning of February.
Local Farmers Market
Every weekend, there's a lively farmers market in a place called the Mercadillo. Here, local farmers sell fresh produce directly to people. It's a great place to find tasty fruits, vegetables, and other local goods.
