Puposky is a small, quiet community located in Beltrami County, Minnesota, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own city government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Durand Township. Puposky is situated in a unique spot, known for its "shaking ground" due to the swampy land around it.
Puposky officially started on September 26, 1905. Around the same time, a railroad line was built through the area, and a Post Office opened. This helped the community grow.
Today, Puposky is about three blocks long. It has a Post Office (with zip code 56667), a town hall where local meetings happen, and a church with a cemetery.
How Many People Live Here?
In 2010, a state count showed that Durand Township, which includes Puposky, had 175 people. There wasn't specific information just for Puposky itself.
A sign outside the town says the population is 89. However, this number hasn't changed for many years, so it might not be correct. In 2011, people living in the area said the population had been as low as 37 residents in the past.
Where Did the Name Come From?
The name Puposky comes from a word in the Ojibwe language. This word means "shaking ground." It refers to the soft, wet, and swampy land found in the area around the community.
