Pureair is a small, quiet place in Wisconsin, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Pureair is located within the larger area called the town of Bayfield, in Bayfield County.
The Story Behind Pureair
Pureair got its name from a special hospital called the Pureair Sanatorium. A sanatorium was a type of hospital where people with long-term illnesses would go to get better. This particular sanatorium helped patients with a serious lung disease called tuberculosis.
This hospital cared for many people from nearby areas like Bayfield County, Iron County, and Ashland County. It also helped some soldiers who had fought in World War I.
The Pureair Sanatorium was open for many years, from 1920 to 1975. After it closed, the building was taken down. Today, the community of Pureair is a reminder of this important part of local history.
