Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist punk rock group. They are known for their protests. The group has about eleven women members. They use their music and performances to share their messages.

The group started in August 2011 in Moscow. Three members, Yekaterina Samutsevich, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Maria Alyokhina, became well-known. They were put in prison after a protest at a cathedral in Moscow. This protest was against Vladimir Putin, who is a political leader in Russia.

Many people around the world thought it was wrong to put the Pussy Riot members in prison. There were protests to support them. Famous people, like Madonna, also asked for their release. Yekaterina Samutsevich was let out of prison in September 2012. This happened after her appeal was successful. Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina were released on December 23, 2013. Later, other members of Pussy Riot said that Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina were no longer part of the group. This was because they showed their faces on US television.
