The Périgny River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the O'Sullivan River. The O'Sullivan River is a larger river that eventually joins the Waswanipi River system.
The Périgny River flows through two main areas in Quebec:
- The Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, near Senneterre, Quebec.
- The Nord-du-Québec region, in the area called Eeyou Istchee Baie-James.
You can reach the area around the Périgny River by using the R1018 road. This road connects to Highway 113, which goes between Lebel-sur-Quévillon and Chibougamau. The river's surface is usually frozen from early November until mid-May. It's generally safe to travel on the ice from mid-November to mid-April.
River's Journey and Surroundings
The Périgny River starts from a small stream in a forest. This stream is found near Highway 1018, at the base of the Waswanipi Hills.
The river flows for about 34.6 kilometers (21.5 miles). Here's how its journey generally goes:
- It starts by flowing east, passing between two mountains.
- Then it turns north into an area called Ralleau.
- It crosses a lake called Lac Périgny, which is about 354 meters (1,161 feet) above sea level.
- The river continues north, passing through another small lake.
- It then flows northwest, picking up water from other small lakes, including Villejouin Lake.
- Finally, it winds its way north until it reaches its mouth.
The Périgny River ends by joining the O'Sullivan River. The O'Sullivan River then flows north into Lake Waswanipi. From Lake Waswanipi, the water continues its journey through the Waswanipi River. This river eventually leads to Goéland Lake and then to Matagami Lake.
Where the River Ends
The mouth of the Périgny River is located:
- About 36.9 kilometers (22.9 miles) southeast of where the O'Sullivan River joins Lake Waswanipi.
- About 53.4 kilometers (33.2 miles) northeast of the town of Lebel-sur-Quévillon.
- About 66.4 kilometers (41.3 miles) south of the town of Waswanipi.
