Qi Xin (simplified Chinese: 齐心; traditional Chinese: 齊心; born on November 3, 1926) is a Chinese author. She is also a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). She is known for writing many articles about her husband, Xi Zhongxun, who was an important Chinese communist leader.

Qi Xin is also the mother of Xi Jinping. He is currently the leader of the Chinese Communist Party.

Early Life and Education

Qi Xin was born in Gaoyang County, Hebei province, China. This was on November 3, 1926. Her father, Qi Houzhi, worked in the legal department of the government.

In 1938, during a war with Japan, Qi Xin was a student. She was attending a middle school for girls in Beiping, which is now Beijing. When the Japanese army took over Beiping, her older sister, Yun, took her to Tunliu County. There, Yun joined the Eighth Route Army, a group of soldiers fighting for the communists.

Her sister then sent Qi Xin to a special school. It was for young women who wanted to help the country. This school was a branch of the Counter-Japanese Military and Political University.

Later, in 1939, Qi Xin moved to another school. It was for female leaders in Changzhi County. She even helped in some local battles there. In 1941, she went to the Central Party School of the Chinese Communist Party. This was a school for future communist leaders. She then went to Yan'an University's middle school in 1942.

She married Xi Zhongxun in April 1944. After finishing school that same year, Qi Xin went to work in a village.

Career and Public Service

In 1952, Qi Xin moved to Beijing with her husband. He became a leader in the government's communication department. In 1953, Qi Xin enrolled in the Marx School of Communism. This was a special school for communist leaders.

After she graduated, Qi Xin continued to work at the institute. It was quite far from her family's home. This meant her husband often had to take care of their children. Qi Xin also visited schools set up by the government. She worked as a consultant, giving advice to these schools.

During a difficult time in China called the Cultural Revolution, her husband faced problems. However, Qi Xin's job may have helped protect her family. She was asked to go with her husband to Luoyang in 1975. She was there to look after him while he was being investigated.

In 2001, a documentary film was made about Qi Xin. It was called Loyal and Dependable——Qi Xin wife of Xi Zhongxun. The film showed her background as a revolutionary. It also highlighted how she raised her children. The documentary showed that she had high hopes for their work and education.

Family Life

Qi Xin met Xi Zhongxun in 1943. They were both studying at a middle school in Suide County. They married on April 28, 1944.

Qi Xin and Xi Zhongxun had four children together. Their first child was a daughter named Qiaoqiao (Chinese: 桥桥), born in 1949. Then came another daughter named An'an (Chinese: 安安) in 1952. They also had two sons, Jinping and Yuanping (Chinese: 远平).

After each child was born, Qi Xin only stayed home for a short time. She would return to her work once the baby was old enough. She usually came home about once a week. The family lived a simple life.
