Qi Xin was born in Gaoyang County, Hebei province, China. This was on November 3, 1926. Her father, Qi Houzhi, worked in the law department of the government's Third Army. This was during a time called the Northern Expedition.
Joining the Revolution
In 1938, when Qi Xin was a teenager, the Second Sino-Japanese War was happening. She was going to middle school in Beiping, which is now Beijing. After the Japanese army took over Beiping, her older sister, Yun, took her to Tunliu County. There, Yun joined the Eighth Route Army, a group fighting against the Japanese.
Yun then sent Qi Xin to a special school for girls. This school was part of the Counter-Japanese Military and Political University. It had a branch in Tunliu.

She was there to look after him while he was still being investigated.
