Quartz Mountain is a small, undeveloped area in Lake County, Oregon. It's not a city or town with its own local government. This area is found within the beautiful Fremont–Winema National Forest.
You can find Quartz Mountain along Oregon Route 140. It sits between the towns of Bly and Lakeview. A stream called Quartz Creek flows through this area. Quartz Creek is a smaller stream that flows into Drews Creek, which then feeds into Goose Lake.

What's in a Name?
The name "Quartz Mountain" comes from a special type of rock. The area is named after a ridge, which is a long, narrow hill. This ridge has a lot of quartz rock.
The Mountain and the Pass
Quartz Mountain is also the name of this ridge that Route 140 crosses. It's about 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Lakeview. Because of the quartz rock found here, the mountain, the community, the creek, and even a place called Quartz Mountain Pass all share the name.
Quartz Mountain Pass is a very important spot. It's the highest point along the entire Oregon Route 140.
A Bit of History
Long ago, Quartz Mountain had its own post office!
The Quartz Mountain Post Office
In 1930, a post office opened right along the highway near Quartz Mountain Pass. It was called Quartz Mountain. The person in charge of this post office was named Vera A. Real. She was the only postmaster (the person who manages a post office) the Quartz Mountain post office ever had.
The post office stayed open for 13 years. It closed its doors in 1943. After that, any mail for the Quartz Mountain area was sent to Lakeview instead.
