Queen Ann in Oz is a children's book written in 1993 by Karyl Carlson and Eric Gjovaag. William Campbell and Irwin Terry drew the pictures. This book is part of the many stories about the magical Land of Oz, which were first started by L. Frank Baum.
This story is a sequel to Baum's 1914 book, Tik-Tok of Oz. It uses characters and ideas from that earlier book. Queen Ann in Oz takes place "several years" after the first story. You'll meet Queen Ann Soforth of Oogaboo, who is the main character. The Shaggy Man and Tik-Tok also return. A small orange dragon named Moretomore is the baby of Quox, a big dragon from Baum's original book.

The Story of Queen Ann in Oz
Queen Ann lives in Oogaboo, a tiny kingdom in the northwestern part of Oz. She feels bored and wants a new adventure. She decides to look for her missing parents, King Jol Jemkiph Soforth and Queen Dede Soforth.
Starting the Search
Queen Ann tries to gather her army, but it doesn't work out. Instead, four brave children want to join her search party. They are a girl named Jody Buttons, and three boys: Jo Musket, Jo Fountainpen, and Jo Dragon. Jo Dragon also brings his pet, Moretomore, the little dragon. Ann also sends a letter to the Shaggy Man, asking him to meet them.
Help from Ozma and Glinda
The Shaggy Man gets Ann's letter by a special mailbird. He tries to find out more about the missing King and Queen. Glinda has a special book called the Great Book of Records. This book usually knows everything, but it doesn't help much this time. It tracks the parents' actions up to a point, then just says "forget it." Princess Ozma tries to find them using her Magic Picture. But it only shows a pink fog with the words "no data available."
Journey to Forgetville
The Shaggy Man meets Ann and her friends. They travel to Sand City, which is ruled by King Lysander and Queen Cassandra. They even slide through some quicksand to speed up their journey! They also meet the very eager barbers of Barberville and spend a nice time in the Friendly Forest.
Finally, they reach a wall with a gate. The gate has a strange warning:

Inside Forgetville
The wall surrounds a village covered in fog. When Ann and her friends go inside, they lose their memories! Moretomore, the little dragon, is safe from the spell. He carries a piece of his eggshell, which stops him from forgetting anything. The dragon wants to help his friends but doesn't know how.
Luckily, Ozma has been watching the Shaggy Man's journey. She sends Tik-Tok, the mechanical man, to help. Tik-Tok brings the search party out of Forgetville. They learn that a special flower, the forget-me-not, can help them remember things. They use these flowers to bring the townspeople out of Forgetville too. This includes the lost King and Queen of Oogaboo! They also want to end the spell on the town.
Breaking the Spell
They find and read the diary of Amnesia, the witch who cast the spell. They learn they can break the wall using the "Ancient Traditional Wall Removal Method." The Shaggy Man thinks this sounds like the story of Jericho from the Bible.
So, the searchers and townspeople act out the story of Jericho. They march around the city seven times. Jo Musket plays his trumpet, and everyone shouts at sunrise. The wall falls down, and the spell is broken! Forgetville turns back into its original name, Goldendale.
Happy Endings
Ozma arrives with breakfast. Together, everyone figures out how Goldendale lost its memory. It involved King Jol Jemkiph, the witch Amnesia, and the Love Magnet from The Road to Oz. Ozma uses her Magic Belt to bring the former Amnesia, now named Amy, from Kansas. The Shaggy Man knew her there and had taken the Love Magnet from her. This helps connect the story back to Baum's original books. During this, the Shaggy Man's real name is revealed: Shagrick Mann. But Ozma promises to keep it a secret.
Ann is very happy to be reunited with her parents. The people of Goldendale choose Jol Jemkiph and Dede Soforth to be their new rulers. Queen Ann remains in charge of Oogaboo.
