History of Queen of Angels Academy
Queen of Angels Academy started in 1995. It was created by combining two other all-girls schools. These schools were St. Michael's High School and Regina Caeli High School.
The School's Location and Management
The new academy used the buildings of the old Regina Caeli High School. Most students at Regina Caeli were from minority groups. The school was run by the Sisters of the Holy Family. These were African-American religious sisters.
Why the School Closed
In December 2001, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles announced that the school would close. This happened at the end of that school year in 2002. The main reasons for closing were fewer students enrolling. Also, the archdiocese had to pay a lot of money to support the school.
What Happened to the Building
After Queen of Angels Academy closed, the building was used for something new. It became St. Albert the Great Middle School. This middle school is part of the parochial school that is located right across the street.
