Quimbaya is a town and municipality in the western part of Quindío, Colombia. It is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) northwest of Armenia, which is the capital city of the department. The town gets its name from the Quimbaya civilization, an ancient group of people who lived in this area long ago.
Quimbaya is part of the "Coffee Cultural Landscape" of Colombia. This area is famous for growing coffee. In 2011, UNESCO recognized it as a World Heritage Site. This means it is a very special place that is important to the world.

History of Quimbaya
Quimbaya was started in 1914 by a person named Juan de J. Buitrago. It became an official municipality in 1922. In 2023, about 31,844 people lived in the town.

Quimbaya is located in a beautiful part of Colombia.
- To the north and west, it shares borders with the Valle del Cauca Department.
- The La Vieja River forms the western edge of the town.
- To the south, the Roble River separates Quimbaya from the towns of Montenegro and Circasia.
- The eastern border is with the municipality of Filandia.

Quimbaya has some exciting places to visit, especially for families and tourists.
PANACA Park
The National Agricultural and Livestock Park, also known as PANACA, is a big theme park. It is located about 7 kilometers (4 miles) west of the main town. This park covers 47 hectares (about 116 acres) and has many interactive exhibits. You can see over 200 different kinds of animals there! PANACA is one of the main tourist attractions in the Quindío department, along with the National Coffee Park in Montenegro.
Candles and Lanterns Festival
The most important cultural event in Quimbaya is the Candles and Lanterns Festival. Its full name in Spanish is Fiesta Nacional del Concurso de Alumbrados con Velas y Faroles. This festival started in 1982 and happens every year on December 7th and 8th.
During the festival, different neighborhoods in the town compete to create the most amazing light displays. They use many candles and lanterns to decorate their streets and homes. Many visitors come from all over Colombia to see these beautiful lights. The festival is held to honor a Catholic holy day, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which is on December 8th.
