How Quinter Got Its Name
In 1885, a community named Familton started here. It first had only a hotel. The U.S. Government would not let them open a post office with the name Familton. This was because it sounded too much like other places in Kansas. So, they chose a new name: Quinter. The city was named after Rev. James Quinter. He was a local minister. Quinter officially became a city in 1909.
