Quirauk Mountain is the highest point on South Mountain. This mountain is 2,145-foot (654 m) tall. It is found in the northeastern part of Washington County, Maryland. The mountain is near the village of Cascade and the community of Blue Mountain. The famous Appalachian Trail and South Mountain State Park are also close by.

What's on Top?
At the very top of Quirauk Mountain, you will find some important structures. There is a tall broadcast tower. This tower helps send out radio signals for stations like WETH-FM and WAYZ-FM. These stations serve areas like Hagerstown.
There is also a special area called "Site C." This site is a radio communication outpost. It belongs to the United States Department of Defense. It is part of a larger emergency site called the Raven Rock Mountain Complex. This complex is a backup location for important government communications. Because of its special use, a part of the mountaintop is fenced off. This area is federal property and is restricted. In the past, a fire lookout tower also stood on the summit.
Great Views from High Rock
About half a mile southwest of the summit is a place called High Rock. This spot is located right on the Appalachian Trail. High Rock offers amazing views of the countryside around it. It is a popular place for hikers to stop and enjoy the scenery.
