Quitaraju or Kitaraju is a tall mountain in the Andes mountain range in Peru. It stands about 6,036 meters (19,803 feet) high. The name might come from local words meaning "dam" and "snow" or "ice."
This impressive peak is found in the Ancash Region of Peru. It is part of the Cordillera Blanca, a beautiful snowy mountain range. Quitaraju is located near the Santa Cruz Creek and several lakes. These lakes include Ichiccocha, Jatuncocha, and Quitacocha. The mountain is also close to other famous peaks like Santa Cruz and Alpamayo. Quitaraju's slopes are protected within the Huascarán National Park.

Who Climbed Quitaraju First?
The first people to successfully climb Quitaraju were Arnold Awerzger and Erwin Schneider. They were from Austria. They reached the summit on June 17, 1936.
