Quitman is a city in Texas, United States. It's the main town, or county seat, of Wood County, Texas. In 2020, about 1,942 people lived there. The city got its name from John A. Quitman. He was a soldier in the Mexican–American War and used to be the governor of Mississippi.

The Quitman Independent School District serves the city of Quitman. It's a Class 3A school district. The school has had success in different areas. For example, they won a state championship in golf. Quitman Public Library
The Quitman Public Library is a great place to find books and learn. It's located at 202 East Goode Street. This is one block east of the Wood County Courthouse.
The library started in 1975. A group of citizens wanted a library for Quitman and the nearby areas. The city council officially opened the library that same year. Its first home was a house given by the Liles family.
In 1980, people raised money to buy a bigger building. The community helped a lot. They bought the old First National Bank building. Later, in 1987, more fundraising began. This was to add space for a children's department and a meeting room. With grants, the "Thurman Shamburger Wing" was opened in 1988.
Today, the library has almost 30,000 items. It also holds the collection of the Wood County Genealogical Society. The library is run by the mayor and city council of Quitman.
