R. H. Gordon (born 1844, died 1917) was an American who lived a busy life. He was a soldier, a pharmacist, and a politician. He even served in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
Growing Up
R. H. Gordon was born on September 6, 1844. His hometown was Maury County, Tennessee. His father, Powhatan Gordon, was also a politician.
A Life of Service
During the American Civil War (1861–1865), R. H. Gordon joined the Confederate States Army. He fought in important battles. These included the First Battle of Bull Run and the Battle of Shiloh.
After the war, Gordon became a pharmacist. He also served on the Tennessee State Board of Pharmacy. Later, he became a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. This meant he helped make laws for the state.
When he moved to New York City, he continued working as a pharmacist. He also held leadership roles in groups for former soldiers. He was a major in the United Confederate Veterans. He also served as vice president of the Tennessee Society of New York.
Family and Later Years
R. H. Gordon married Eleanora Cunningham on October 15, 1868. They had five children together. Their two sons were George Cunningham Gordon and Richard Haden Gordon. Their three daughters were Ann McClelland Gordon, Carolyn Gordon, and Eleanora Gordon.
Gordon passed away on November 26, 1917. He died in New York City.
